A major water main break on Weber Street in downtown Kitchener Thursday evening sent large volumes of water rushing through the area.

The break originated at Weber Street between Queen Street and Frederick Street.

The flooding had slowed considerable by around 7 p.m. as a Kitchener Utilities crew worked on the break, which had forced the closure of a stretch of Weber.

A worker at the site of the break said it was uncommon to see break of this size.

By 7 p.m., crews had significantly reduced the flooding on Weber Street. (Pras Rajagopalan/CBC)
