The province's police watchdog is appealing for witnesses to an incident at an Oktoberfest event that left a 43-year-old man seriously injured.

The Special Investigations Unit says the man was at Altes Muenchen Haus at the Queensmount Arena in Kitchener, on the night of Oct. 9, when he was approached by Waterloo regional police officers.

The SIU says there was an interaction between the man and the officers, the man was arrested, taken to the detachment and then released a short time later.

The man was later diagnosed with a serious injury.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information, or video or photos of the interaction to contact investigators.

The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
