Aspiring pot shop owners in Kitchener and Guelph are among the 42 latest winners of the province's cannabis retail store lottery draw, according to a news release from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

In Kitchener, an applicant by the name of "Patricia, Gertrude, Donnelly" is proposing to open a retail store at 589 Fairway Road S., which is in the same plaza as Shoeper, Marshall's and State and Main Kitchen and Bar.

In Guelph, an applicant named John Reynolds wants to open a store downtown at 120 Wyndham Street N.

The applicants now have until Aug. 28 to apply for a cannabis retail operator licence and store authorization.

The AGCO will only license applicants and authorize stores that meet legal and regulatory requirements, it noted.

The draw was held on August 20 and received 4,864 eligible expressions of interest, the AGCO said.
