Kate's 5 fun things to do while staying away from others this long weekend
The forecast looks like it will be cooler for the first half of this Easter and Passover weekend, then wet for the second half, so maybe it's a good thing we're all supposed to stay inside.
Many churches are going online this weekend to bring parishioners Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. Check with your own place of worship to see what they're planning.
Mass community Easter egg hunts are off the table in this time of physical distancing, but it doesn't mean you can't have fun in your own home by hiding mini eggs or even paper cutouts of eggs around the house and yard.
There is lots of music to choose from this weekend, so sit back on your couch and enjoy your favourite musicians from home until you can catch them at a concert.
Digitally Curated Concert Series
6 p.m., Friday, April 10
6 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Two concerts are on tap this weekend thanks to Silence in Guelph: Join Olivia Shortt on Friday night and Suitcase Sam on Saturday.
Each concert includes prerecorded music and an interview with musicians who were scheduled to perform at Silence, but have had to cancel because of COVID-19. Future listings are on the Facebook page, too.
Madison Galloway: My Home to Yours
9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Join Fergus' Madison Galloway for an online concert with special guest singer-songwriter John Muirhead of London. This is Galloway's fourth concert and she even takes requests from fans for their favourite songs.
There's no cost to watch, although she's set up a virtual tip jar. If you like what you hear, CDs and T-shirts are also available.
Alysha Brilla in concert
6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Alysha Brilla is hosting an online concert with help from the National Arts Centre.
Brilla says fans can expect an "intimate and casual acoustic set of my music, telling my usual in-between-songs stories."
Danny Michel in concert
3 p.m., Sunday, April 12
Join Danny Michel and fellow fans in an online experience that lets you see Danny and everyone watching the show. There's a different theme each week and people are welcome to be part of the show. Once you buy the $7 ticket, you get a link to take part.
Become a part of history
It's not every weekend you can do something to become part of history. But right now, you can.
Region of Waterloo Museums, Region of Waterloo Archives, and Region of Waterloo Libraries are asking people to write down what they're experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Write, create art or make a video about what it's like to go shopping, be in quarantine, have COVID-19 yourself or dealing with a family or friend who has it, what your children are doing to stay occupied, how you're feeling or stories about the people around the community who are making a difference. Then submit your item via email.
Inspired to write more? The Guelph Public Library and Rotary Club of Guelph have teamed up to present The Night Sky poetry contest for students in grades seven to 12. Deadline is April 15.
