Two more dates have been set for another round of public consultations over the proposed LRT route from Kitchener to Cambridge.

"Potential alternative routes will be presented to the public" later in November, the region's ION transportation service said Friday.

Dates for the latest round of meetings are set for:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at Cambridge City Hall from 2-8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at the Preston Memorial Auditorium from 4- 8 p.m.

"After evaluating the potential route alternatives, the results and the preferred routes will be presented to the public at another Public Consultation Centre," the agency said in a release.

Opposition

The Stage 2 ION project to bring LRT service to Cambridge has met with considerable opposition.

In May, resident Lee Ann Mitchell told Craig Norris on The Morning Edition her home was one of about 100 that would need to be expropriated for the route proposed at that time.
The Region of Waterloo announced a proposed route map for the second stage of the Ion LRT project, as the focus shifts to Cambridge. (Region of Waterloo )

"It's a quiet, residential area. The majority of the people that live in that area have lived there, a lot of them, most of their lives. There's some original farmhouses through that area, heritage buildings, pedestrian traffic because of the trail that runs behind the houses. [Residents] don't feel that it's the best location," she said.

Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig also voiced his council's disapproval over the initial route plan last summer.

"We will not be supporting the preferred route. There is no question about that," he said.
