Interfaith prayer in Kitchener marks second anniversary of shooting at Quebec mosque
'We want to celebrate the support we received from the wider community,' organizer says
An interfaith prayer will be held in Kitchener Tuesday evening to mark the second anniversary of a fatal shooting at a Quebec City mosque.
The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Kitchener city hall.
It's being organized by the Coalition of Muslim Women, Islamic Humanitarian Services, Interfaith Grand River and Islamic Centre of Cambridge.
Six men were killed and several others wounded on Jan. 29, 2017 when a gunman opened fire on a Quebec City mosque just as Sunday prayers were ending.

In a release about Tuesday's event in Kitchener, organizer Sarah Shafiq said the prayer will bring the community together.
"We'll remember the victims, reaffirm our commitment to protect all faith communities and share our concerns regarding Islamophobia," she said.
"At the same time, we want to celebrate the support we received from the wider community after the shooting. Such actions push back the darkness of hate and intolerance."
The National Council of Canadian Muslims is asking for Jan. 29th to be designated as a national day of action against hate and intolerance.
