Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County will experience the season's first heat event as hot and humid conditions are expected Monday into Tuesday.

Monday's temperature is expected to be near 30 C with the humidex value into the low 30s. Some relief  is expected during the overnight hours as the temperature dips to the upper teens, according to a special weather statement from Environment Canada.

The UV index is also expected to be very high Monday and Tuesday.

Maximum temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be in low 30s with humidex value of 36 and little relief from the heat Tuesday night. Minimum temperatures expected in the low 20s in many areas.

"We have a high pressure system off the coast of North America and so we have a south-west flow coming into Ontario and that's pulling warm air up from the southern U.S.," said Alyssa Young, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

These hot and humid conditions can pose a health risk for older adults, young children and people with chronic illnesses, Environment Canada said.

People should drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty, keep cool by dressing for the weather and spend more time in a cool place.

Young said cooler weather is expected Wednesday.

"We're expecting a cold front to move through in the afternoon and that will bring much cooler air for the rest of the week," she adds.

Farther south, in Windsor - Essex - Chatham-Kent, the heat conditions prompted a weather warning with temperatures predicted to reach the mid 30s.
