Music lovers will have plenty to see and do at this year's Hillside Festival at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

The lineup includes Buffy Sainte-Marie with The Sadies, Holy F--k, Rose Cousins, Noah23, Ben Caplan and many emerging artists.

"Hillside really returning to its roots this year - strong focus on homegrown and emerging artists," Toronto Twitter user Tabassum Siddiqui wrote after the lineup was announced Friday morning.

Vish Khanna, the festival's media co-ordinator, said that means featuring performers they feel offer something unique and different to festival-goers.

"This is a really, really solid artistic lineup and some incredible performers — things that people don't know that well, maybe, that are really going to blow their minds," he said.

"It's this weird weekend of discovery," said Khanna, citing a show featuring Buffy Sainte-Marie and The Sadies as an example.

"I mean, come on. That's amazing. The fact that those two are going to perform together, that The Sadies are backing up Buffy, that's just one in a million," Khanna said.

The festival also includes spoken word performances, workshops, a children's area and local and international food.

On Friday, festival organizers also released the poster for this year's concert, which features a painting by Guelph artist Ryan Price.

The weekend festival will take place July 22 to 24. Tickets go on sale at Encore Records in Kitchener and Soundscapes in Toronto, at the Hillside office in Guelph, as well as through Ticketbreak, on April 30 and at The Bookshelf in Guelph starting May 1.
