The province's Special Investigations Unit has identified the man killed in a Guelph hospital police shooting as 36-year-old Brandon Scott Duncan.

Duncan was killed when two officers discharged their firearms inside Guelph General Hospital's emergency waiting room, last Wednesday.

It is still unclear what prompted the officers to fire their weapons.

In a news release Monday, the province's police watch dog said it is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting, with a team of eight investigators and four forensic specialists.

Following the shooting, a witness told CBC News that she saw a woman running out of the hospital while yelling, "My boyfriend's shooting at me."

"There's blood on the ground," the witness said. "It was freaky."

Anyone with any information about the shooting should contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2293.
