Man, 25, charged with 2nd-degree murder after 51-year-old man found dead in Guelph apartment

On Tuesday, officers were checking on the well-being of a tenant in an apartment on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue when they found the man's body. He was pronounced dead on scene. Police believe he died on or about Oct. 21.

A man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 51-year-old Guelph man was found dead in his apartment about two weeks after it's believed he died.

On Tuesday, officers were checking on the well-being of a tenant in an apartment on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue when they found the man's body. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Police believe he died on or about Oct. 21.

"Following a thorough investigation, which included a post-mortem examination, the death was ruled a homicide," Guelph Police Service said on Friday.

Police charged a 25-year-old man of no fixed address with second-degree murder. Police say he was already in custody on unrelated charges.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
