Grand River Parks online camping reservation system opens Tuesday
Camping season begins May 1
The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) will begin taking online reservations for campsites Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.
But GRCA spokesperson Cam Linwood said it's a good idea to check out the website before then. Campers can get familiar with the website and register an account.
Once the system launches, Linwood said active users will be assigned a place in line at random.
"It doesn't matter if you're on at 7 a.m. or 9 a.m., it selects people at random at that point," Linwood said.
"Anybody who logs in after 9 a.m. will be put behind that queue. So certainly there is equal opportunity for everybody to get online as soon as they're able, and try and get a great campsite."
The online reservation system will be available 24 hours a day from April 6 through mid-October. Anyone who needs alternate booking arrangements can also call 519-621-2761.
Camping season begins May 1. Starting that day, campers can also make reservations by phone by calling the parks directly.
Linwood said he expects a lot of interest in camping this summer.
"We fully anticipate that we will have a very busy and robust early start to our camping season when people go online on April 6 to start booking," he said.
Conservation areas will have COVID-19 protocols in place once again this summer. There will be reduced capacity and not all campsites will be open. Boat rentals, food concessions and showers will be closed.
