Catholic elementary school in Maryhill to be closed

Waterloo Catholic District School Board says it will eventually be replaced by a yet built 250 student elementary school in Breslau, if approved by the Ministry of Education.

School closure review underway for five schools

Waterloo Catholic District School Board have voted to close St. Boniface elementary school in Maryhill .

The board says it will eventually be replaced by a yet-to-be built 250-student elementary school in Breslau. The board says a declining student population in Maryhill coupled with an anticipated increase in residential development in Breslau are some of the factors that govern the decision.

If Ontario's ministry of education approves these plans, all St. Boniface students will be moved to the planned Breslau site.

The board is also conducting an elementary school closure review in west Waterloo, Wilmot and Wellesley townships.

St. Agatha is the only school that faces possible closure.

But four other elementary schools will be affected by the review: St. Clement, Holy Family, St. Nicholas, and Holy Rosary.
