Cambridge woman postpones Lake Huron swim

A Cambridge woman has postponed her 75-kilometre swim from Harbor Beach, Michigan to Goderich, Ontario for a week, because stormy waters and high winds have been predicted on Lake Huron.

Stormy forecast has forced Lesley Zehr to wait a week to embark on 75-kilometre trek

Cambridge swimmer Lesley Zehr will wait a week before she attempts to cross the blue waters of Lake Huron.

She was supposed to embark on a 75-kilometre swim from Harbor Beach, Michigan, to Goderich, Ontario on Saturday, but has postponed the swim on the advice of her coach Marilyn Korzekwa, due to inclement weather.

Forecasters predict a possibility of thunderstorms on Saturday, which could bring high winds, heavy rain and large waves on Lake Huron.

When her trek finally gets underway, Zehr plans to swim for 40 hours across Lake Huron, from Michigan to Ontario in order to raise awareness for drowning prevention.

If Zehr completes her swim, she'll be the sixth person to swim across the Lake Huron, but only the second person after Vicki Keith Munro to swim the longest 75 km route.
