Cambridge woman arrested in connection to online puppy scam
10 victims sent the woman money, according to police
A 24-year-old Cambridge woman has been arrested in connection to an online puppy scam, the Waterloo Region Police Service announced Friday.
Ten victims reported to police that in early April, they responded to online advertisements for French bulldog puppies. They communicated with the advertiser and were sent pictures of the dogs.
When victims asked to see the puppies in person they were allegedly told that due to COVID-19 restrictions no viewings would be allowed.
Deposits were sent in order to secure a puppy but the victims never received a dog, police said.
WRPS say they want to remind people to pause and consider the situation before sending money over the internet.
Victims of fraud are encouraged to call the WRPS non-emergency line at 519-570-9777.
