A man's death in Cambridge Thursday morning is being investigated as a homicide, Waterloo Regional Police (WRPS) say.

"Initial reports from witnesses indicated that they heard gunshots," Const. Andre Johnson told CBC.

Officers were called to Southwood Drive at 6:25 a.m. An adult male was found with serious injuries and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not identify the man or say how the man died. A port-mortem has been scheduled for Friday.

Police said the investigation is underway and there will be an increased police presence in the area. Officers are canvassing the area and are asking anyone with information to contact Waterloo Regional Police Service or CrimeStoppers.

Officers are "looking for anyone who might have seen any people in the area at the time or any vehicles in the area," Johnson said.
