Bryan Larkin named new Waterloo Regional Police chief

Guelph Police Chief Bryan Larkin is stepping down as he accepts a new role as police chief for Waterloo Region.

"I am delighted that Bryan Larkin has accepted our offer to become the next Chief of the Waterloo Regional Police Service,” said Tom Galloway, the chair of the Waterloo Region police services board in a Tuesday release.

"[We] look forward to benefiting from his track record of exceptional leadership, commitment to community service, and passion for policing excellence.”

Larkin replaces Matt Torigian, who stepped down as chief in April to accept a job as the deputy minister of community safety and correctional services with the Ontario government.

Larkin got his start in policing as a constable with the Waterloo Regional Police, rising to the rank of divisional commander before joining the Guelph police force first as deputy chief and then as chief in 2011. 

Now Larkin will return to Waterloo Region as chief designate until his new role becomes effective on a date yet to be determined.
