Staff at Grand River Conservation Authority say there is blue-green algae in the reservoir at Belwood Lake.

GRCA said the algae bloom was found near the Wellington Road 26 bridge in Belwood Village.

Staff are asking people to keep pets and children away from the algae and to avoid touching it.

Boating is still allowed, but staff are warning people to avoid swimming in the lake and avoid drinking water from the lake.

Blue-green algae normally form during late summer or early fall, when water is slow moving and warm.

Certain kinds of algae can cause illness in human and animals.
