BlackBerry releases luxury $2,340 Porsche keyboard phone
Instead of getting into a Porsche, now you can hold one in your hand..
BlackBerry and the Porsche Design Group announced a luxury-edition smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard, called the P’9983, at an event in Dubai on Wednesday.
The price of the phone is hefty — listed on the Porsche Design Group's website at €1650, about $2,340 Cdn.
The Porsche Design Group is a subsidiary of the German automaker Porsche AG.
It's a phone clearly aimed at international travellers, and comes with a "premium stereo headset," international charging kit, a polishing cloth and a USB cable, according to a press release. Users can pick between an English or an Arabic-language phone
The smartphone will run the BlackBerry 10 operating system and includes a sapphire glass camera lens and a forged stainless steel frame.
Phone users will also get a unique BlackBerry PIN that marks them as a Porsche phone user — all the IDs will start with the 2AA prefix.
According to the Porsche Design Group's website, the P'9983 itself is 119 mm long (4.64 inches) and 67.1 mm wide (2.64 in), almost the same size as BlackBerry's Q10 QWERTY keyboard phone that was released last year.
