RCMP monitoring "Creepy Clown" phenomenon

It's still a few weeks from Halloween, but scary clowns are popping up all over social media. Kamloops RCMP have taken notice and so has a Kamloops man who makes his living as a clown for kids.

Across North America, people are dressing up as scary clowns to frighten total strangers

Kamloops RCMP aren't laughing about the creepy clown phenomenon that is sweeping social media.

It began in the United States and has crept across North America.

A person dresses up in a scary clown costume and then goes out in public to scare total strangers.

In many cases the prank has back-fired.

A student in Prince George was recently arrested for posting an image online of clowns with guns.

The text read "Every school in PG about to get hit."
