Firefighters in Kamloops will start carrying Naloxone

Firefighters are often the first to respond to emergency calls and starting in July, they'll have naloxone kits with them when they attend to those emergencies.

Kamloops fire fighters will soon start carrying Naloxone - an antidote for people who overdose on opioids.

Drug overdoses in Kamloops are up...way up. Especially overdoses to opiate drugs like Fentanyl. And so it's welcome news that starting tomorrow, July 1, firefighters in Kamloops will start carrying Naloxone.

Naloxone can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses. Since fire crews are often the first to respond to an emergency call, they're often the first on-scene in a drug emergency.
