First Nations bands in the Kamloops area's plans to declare aboriginal title over a lake could impact a proposed open pit mine. Jacko Lake borders the proposed Ajax copper and gold mine. Shuswap National Tribal Co-Chair Wayne Christian says the lake and surrounding area is culturally significant to local bands. Daybreak's Doug Herbert has this breaking news.

Aboriginal title will be declared by the Tk'emlups and Skeetchest'n Indian Bands in a ceremony at the lake Sunday morning on National Aboriginal Day. The mine proponent, KGHM Ajax, expects to file its Environmental assessment application this fall.
