Judge dismisses weapons charges against Bacon brother

A provincial court judge dismissed charges Friday against an Abbotsford man whose brothers are facing similar charges in a more recent incident.

Jonathan Bacon, 27, along with Rayleene Burton and Godwin Cheng, faced 15 drug and weapons charges related to a stash of drugs, guns and money police say they found in Bacon's Abbotsford home in 2005. Provincial Court Judge Donald Gardiner threw out all 15 charges against the three accused, ruling police did not have the grounds to obtain a search warrant when they made the drug bust.

Gardiner said allowing the evidence would bring the administration of justice into disrepute.

Bacon's brothers, Jarrod Bacon, 25, and James Bacon, 22, were arrested May 31 on numerous weapons charges. They each face nine counts of firearms-related charges and are jointly charged with 15 additional firearms offenses.

At the time of the arrests, police issued a warning to the public and family members about the brothers, saying it could be dangerous to associate with the two men.

Jamie and Jarrod Bacon are in police custody awaiting a bail hearing June 10.
