What's open and closed for Victoria Day weekend
Green cart, recycling, garbage and leaf and yard waste collection will not take place on Monday
Victoria Day will be different this year amid COVID-19, but as a statutory holiday, some facilities will be closed.
The pandemic means all city-run programming and administration facilities are closed.
So are play structures, park benches and amenities, sports fields, city golf courses, dog parks, skate parks, waterfall locations and the escarpment stairs until further notice.
While the premier has announced golf courses can begin to reopen Saturday, Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger said residents won't be able to hit municipally-owned links until next week.
Staff are working to have King's Forest running by Wednesday, with plans for Chedoke to begin welcoming golfers by next weekend.
Fireworks also won't be a part of this year's celebrations to avoid crowds gathering.
One thing that will be open is the public boat launch at Bayfront Park, which Eisenberger said staff are working to have reopened by Saturday.
Holiday closures and changes
Green cart, recycling, garbage and leaf and yard waste collection will not take place on Monday. Instead, waste will be picked up one day later than regularly scheduled.
Community recycling centres and transfer stations will also be closed.
HSR buses and ATS-Darts will run on a holiday schedule on Monday.
The Farmer's Market will operate from Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hamilton police, the fire department and paramedics will not be affected.
Beer Store and LCBO
The Beer Store and LCBO say all of their locations will be closed on Victoria Day.
As for grocery stores, many are closed Monday, while others may be offering holiday hours.
Call ahead or check online before going out.
