"The Pigskin Pete character has been a staple at Tiger-Cats home games for the better part of a century and we're tasking our fans with helping us find the next one," explained Matt Afinec, Tiger-Cats president and chief operating officer, in a media release.
"We understand the historical significance of the role and the impact on our game experience to have the right person leading the Oskee Wee Wee chant – one of the most defining and symbolic in-game traditions in all of sports."
So what makes the perfect Pigskin Pete?
The team says it's searching for someone who embodies the "Pigskin Pete persona:
- A passionate, charismatic and energetic person who can perform the Oskee Wee Wee chant and represent all Tiger-Cats fans with "pride and integrity."
- You have to be willing to attend every home game at Tim Hortons Field and make select appearances around the community.
- That's about it! There are no restrictions based on age or gender. "Everyone interested is a candidate."
Every potential Pete will be reviewed by an advisory committee including Tiger-Cats community ambassador Lesley Stewart, receiver Luke Tasker, representatives from the team's front office, Ticats alumni, local media and season ticket holders.
That committee will create a short list of standout applicants and a minimum of three standouts will be selected for fans to vote on at Ticats.ca.
Here's how to apply:
