Swoop now has just 1 flight out of Hamilton during winter schedule with focus on Toronto
A flight between Hamilton and Edmonton will operate every week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
Starting Oct. 25 low-cost airline Swoop will have just one flight taking off from Hamilton's John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport as the airline bolsters its operations out of Toronto.
Swoop released its winter schedule with an emphasis on flights in Toronto and Edmonton, most of which are from one Canadian city to another.
Swoop said in a release that since July, it has been focusing to push new operations out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
Now, the only flight departing from Hamilton heads to Edmonton every week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
"The decisions on schedule and service are based on Swoop's recovery plans and are indicative of the demand that we are seeing. Swoop is exploring every avenue that will allow us to bring affordable travel to more Canadians, which could see the schedule potentially adjust to changing demand," read an e-mail statement from Swoop.
"We will continue to serve the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport as we feel this is a market that has served Swoop well and still holds opportunities for us. We are thankful for the continued support of the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport now and during our first two years of operation."
Swoop, operated by WestJet, launched in Hamilton back in 2018 with a trip from Hamilton to Abbotsford, B.C. for just $129.
The carrier named its first ever plane, a Boeing 737-800NG with 189 seats featuring its purple logo, the #Hamilton.
