Positive COVID-19 test at Shoppers Drug Mart Hamilton Mountain Plaza
The company says the employee hasn’t been in the store since April 9
Loblaw says an employee at the Shoppers Drug Mart in the Hamilton Mountain Plaza has tested positive for COVID-19.
The store on Upper James Street closed for a cleaning on Monday and sent an e-mail to customers about the worker who "tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19."
Catherine Thomas, a Loblaw spokesperson, told CBC News the infected employee has not been in the store since April 9 and did not show any symptoms while at work.
"Team members who worked closely with this individual are now at home in self-isolation, monitoring for any symptoms," Thomas said.
"We learned about the positive diagnosis on April 20."
Thomas added the company reached out the local public health team and increased sanitization and physical distancing measures.
The location was closed for a cleaning and re-opened on Tuesday.
An employee at Frank's No Frills on Rymal Road also tested positive for the virus and hadn't been at work since April 9.
Hamilton public health will not confirm any cases related to businesses or places of residence, making it unclear if this case is included in the total count.
As of Wednesday, Hamilton had 348 confirmed and seven probable cases of COVID-19. The virus has hospitalized 43 people and killed 16 in Hamilton.
