Two men injured in east Hamilton shooting

Barton Street is currently closed between Rosslyn Avenue Ottawa Street. Investigators are asking people to avoid the area as there's a currently a heavy police presence.

Hamilton police are investigating a shooting near Barton Street and Balmoral Avenue that left two men with injuries.

A Hamilton EMS spokesperson says two victims who appear to be in their 20s were transported to hospital and are expected to survive.

The incident is the second time in just over 14 hours someone in Hamilton has been shot. It also marks the city's sixth shooting so far this year.

Earlier Tuesday police issued a press release asking for witnesses to come forward after a shooting near Parkdale Avenue North and Roxborough Avenue around midnight that left a man in his 20s with minor injuries.

A police spokesperson said the service is "very aware" the two shooting incidents happened in quick succession Tuesday, but added the investigation is just beginning and officers need time to figure out what's going on.

The police service's official Twitter account posted about the latest shooting near Ottawa Street around 2:20 p.m.
