The 42-year-old pedestrian who was the victim of a hit and run on the Mountain early Friday has died, according to Hamilton police.

The man, identified as Glen Harison Clark, succumbed to his injuries, police said Saturday, one day after he was hit by a vehicle travelling south on Upper Wentworth Street around 2 a.m.

The driver failed to stay at the scene but police said Saturday "the vehicle involved has been identified and located by investigators."

The man is the eighth pedestrian to be killed on Hamilton streets in 2022 and the second in less than a week, after conductor Boris Brott was killed in a hit and run Tuesday near his home in the Durand neighbourhood.

A funeral was held for Brott at the Temple Anshe Sholom Sunday afternoon in Westdale. A memorial gathering is planned for Monday evening at Mcdonald Park in Montreal, "where Boris conducted his first performance, at the age of 10, 68 years ago," according to organizers with the Orchestre classique de Montréal.

At least two other recent incidents left pedestrians with injuries, including one Thursday evening in which a 62-year-old man was hit in Stoney Creek and another on March 31 which sent a 14-year-old girl to hospital after she was hit crossing the street at Dundurn and Main streets.

"Our thoughts remain with the families, loved ones and all those affected by these recent incidents," Dave Thompson, a supervisor with Hamilton Paramedic Service, told CBC Friday.

Reflecting on the high number of pedestrian deaths so far this year and recent injuries, Hamilton-based personal injury lawyer Ian Brisbin said there is a "collective failure to acknowledge that these tragedies are not isolated incidents, but are systemic."

Police said an investigation into the Friday morning collision is ongoing and ask any witnesses to contact Detective Constable Wes Wilson of the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753.
