More people have tested positive for COVID-19 at catholic elementary schools in the Niagara region.

Niagara Region Public Health has declared an outbreak at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School, following two new confirmed cases of COVID-19, says a media release for the Niagara Catholic District School Board.

The first case was identified September 30. Then two new cases were identified on Tuesday.

Two of the cases are in in one classroom, and the third is in another.

A new case has also appeared at St. Alfred Catholic Elementary School.

Niagara Region Public Health is in the process of contacting all students and staff who had direct contact with the person.

Students and staff at the school "were exposed to COVID-19 while the person was infectious," confirmed the school board.

The person is currently self-isolating, and the principal of the school has sent a letter to all students and staff to notify them.

The school board is advising people to follow the recommendations of Niagara Region Public Health.
