Families will find out if the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is entering full remote learning next Thursday, April 15.

This comes after city's medical officer of health said she would recommend the move to close schools after the spring break, which starts next week.

In a letter to families, HWDSB asked families to ensure children take their belongings at school home with them.

If there is a shift to remote learning, there will be transition days without any instruction. Those days will allow families to pick up devices and plan for remote learning.

Elementary students would have a two-day transition on April 19 and 20 while high school students and remote learners would get one transition day on April 19.

School unions were pushing to have in-person learning close earlier this week after seeing the number of COVID-19 cases among staff and students reach record levels.
