An employee at the Husky gas station on Upper Ottawa Street has tested positive for COVID-19.

Management says the employee's last shift was May 18.

"Out of an abundance of caution we have closed the station and will conduct a thorough sanitization before re-opening," Kim Guttormson, manager of communications at Husky Energy Inc., told CBC News.

"Our priority is the health and safety of our customers, employees and the community. A number of precautions are in place at all our locations, including regular enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of common, high-contact areas such as countertops, door handles, fuelling nozzles and pin pads on both pumps and in stores, as well as social distancing practices."

The gas station closed yesterday for cleaning and re-opened today.

Hamilton Public Health will not confirm any cases related to businesses or places of residence, making it unclear if this case is included in the total count.

As of Wednesday morning, Hamilton had 653 confirmed and eight probable cases of COVID-19. The virus has hospitalized 132 people and killed 34 in Hamilton.
