Police investigate Hamilton's 3rd homicide after man shot dead in Stoney Creek
Woman taken to hospital with serious injuries, police say
Hamilton police say they're investigating a homicide in Stoney Creek after a man was shot dead, and a woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Staff Sgt. Jim Callender said officers were called to 347 Arvin Avenue, located in an industrial area, around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.
He said people had come across the woman, who had also been shot, and called police. She was transported to hospital and is in serious condition.
After the officers cleared the area, Callender said police found the man, who was dead at the back of the premises.
He's been identified as Tyler Pratt, a 39-year-old man from B.C. Callender said he believes Pratt was moving to the Greater Toronto Area, but not specifically Hamilton.
The 26-year-old woman has "ties" to Hamilton, he said, but has moved around.
Pratt and the woman, he said, had known each other for a "period of time." Police don't know what they were doing in the area, and the business wasn't open. Callender said they were the only witnesses.
The woman is being treated as a victim at this time, he said.
Police searching for white Land Rover
No arrests have been made, he said, and there's no description of suspects.
A weapon hasn't been recovered, and police continue to investigate.
Officers are looking for a white "newer-model" Land Rover. Callender said the vehicle has body damage to the lower panel.
"Just from the evidence at the scene, that's what we believe," he said on why police thought there was damage.
This is the city's third homicide this year.
Given the building is in an industrial area, Callender said he expects a "vast" amount of surveillance video. Police are on site, and will be there for the rest of the day.
Callender asked anyone who works or resides in the area, and those who saw anything unusual, to talk to officers at the command van at the scene.
He's also asking for anyone who was travelling in the area between 6:45 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. on Sunday to call the police.
