Woman charged after senior struck

A woman is facing highway traffic act charges after a Hamilton senior was struck by a car in central Hamilton.

A woman is facing highway traffic act charges after a Hamilton senior was struck by a car in central Hamilton.

Police were called to the intersection at Barton Street East and Catharine Street North just after 5 p.m. after getting reports of a person being hit by a car. 

Officers arrived to find a injured 74-year-old man alongside a 47-year-old woman who was tending to him.

He was rushed to hospital with what was originally deemed life threatening injuries. He is now in stable condition in hospital and recovering, police say.

The woman at the scene was identified as the driver involved in the incident. She was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian under the Highway Traffic Act. 

This was the second such serious traffic incident on Hamilton's streets in 24 hours.

Kindergarten teacher and father of three Jay Keddy was killed when cycling up the Claremont Access Wednesday evening.
