Vigil for victims of Pakistan school attack Monday in Hamilton

A vigil for the victims of the Taliban attack at a Pakistani school will be held in Hamilton Monday. 

The vigil, honouring the 141 people killed during Tuesday's attack, is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22 at Hamilton City Hall. Community leaders and politicians from all three levels of the government, including Mayor Fred Eisenberger, will speak at the vigil, according to organizers. 

Taliban-affliated Gunmen stormed the military-run Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing 141 children and staff. The majority of the victims were students at the school.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group bent on overthrowing the government, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was to revenge the killings of Taliban members at the hands of Pakistani authorities. 

"Peshawar was once known the city of flowers; is now known as the city of small caskets," the organizers wrote on the event's Facebook page.

"We wish to create awareness among the children and public that militancy knows no religion, no nationality and all it does is to kill humanity."
