Women's studies in Kabul: Hamilton woman helps develop first-ever program

At the university where Marufa Shinwari was once forced to stop teaching because she's a woman, there's now a gender and women's studies Master's degree program. Classes started this week.

And Shinwari, who moved to Hamilton as a refugee in the mid-1990s, played a role in helping set up the curriculum, inspired in part by her own studies as a Master's student at McMaster University. 

Red Hill collisions: Bad road or bad drivers?

A discussion erupted Sunday in response to news of 10 collisions being reported on the Red Hill Valley Parkway on Saturday. 

Hamilton Police eastern division acting Staff Sgt. Greg Jackson attributed the mess to a "combination of people's driving, the rain and road conditions."

5 dead, 1 missing after whale watching vessel sinks off Tofino, B.C.

The BC Coroners Service says five people have died after a whale watching vessel sank off the coast of Tofino, B.C., Sunday, while 18 were sent to hospital.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre confirms that the MV Leviathan II, operated by Jamie's Whaling Station,had 27 people on board when it sank west of Vargas Island. Of that total, 21 have been rescued, while one person remains missing.
