Gunfire left bullet holes, abandoned shell casings and damage to a car and a business near Main St. East and East Ave. in Hamilton around 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

Hamilton Police Service Staff Sgt. Michael Spencer said there were two male shooters involved. No one was injured, he said. No one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

It was the second apparent shooting in the neighbourhood in 24 hours. A few blocks away, police received reports before 3 a.m. Sunday of gunshots near King and Ashley Streets. When they arrived on scene they found that one bullet had struck a building. No one was injured there, either, Spencer said.

At Main and East, police forensic investigators brought dogs to the scene and taped off large areas and roads while they searched for evidence. A stray bullet had gone through the glass at Marz Paint Warehouse, and there was also bullet damage to a nearby Cadillac.

Twitter user @2blinns_2 posted photos of streets blocked off and police searching the area with what appears to be a metal detector.

Criminal investigators are piecing together details on both incidents, Spencer said. Nothing so far in the investigation indicates any relation to the shooting in Stoney Creek last week, Spencer said.
