According to the city's sign bylaw, election signs can't be posted until 28 days before the election, which in this case is Sept. 29. The municipal election is Oct. 27.
Candidates took to Twitter to post photos of their late-night signs. Ward 1 candidate Aidan Johnson referred to his volunteers as the "early morning sign patrol," and Ward 3 candidate Matthew Green used the Twitter hashtag #SignNinjas.
