Display your art on a giant exploding soccer ball as part of Pan Am Games

The Pan Am Art Explosion will feature four massive "exploded" soccer balls made of aluminum plates that will be mounted on a pedestal and displayed on sidewalks in the downtown area.

Deadline for submissions is Wednesday March 4

Hamilton artists who want to contribute to the Pan Am Games have a chance to be part of an exciting downtown beautification project.

The Pan Am Art Explosion will feature four massive "exploded" soccer balls made of aluminum plates that will be mounted on a pedestal and displayed on sidewalks in the downtown area.

The Downtown Hamilton Business Improvement Area is asking artists to submit proposals for an art piece that can be applied directly to the exploded soccer balls.

Suzi Ozer from the Downtown Hamilton BIA said the beautification project celebrates Hamilton hosting soccer as part of the Pan Am Games in July.

"Our goal is to enliven the downtown area with art and encourage artists in the community to participate in building the downtown core," said Ozer.

Artists can email proposals to info@downtownhamilton.org or drop one off at the Downtown Hamilton BIA office, 20 Hughson St. S., Suite 202.

The deadline to submit an art proposal is Wednesday March 4 at 4 p.m. Artists will be responsible for installing their work on the soccer balls from April 1 to May 30.

The Pan Am Art Explosion project will launch Sunday June 21 as part of the Pan Am Torch arrival at Gore Park.
