Thermometers hit 15 C today, setting a record for the hottest Christmas eve temperatures recorded in Hamilton since 1964 by almost a full degree.

This marks the second day in a row where Hamilton has had record-breaking temperatures. Wednesday, which hit 15.8 C, was the hottest Dec. 23 since the 10.3 C day in 2003.

Environment Canada made note of the difference in temperature between now and just a year ago when Hamilton and the rest of southern Ontario was hit by the polar vortex.

"Travel conditions (on Thursday) should be very good for everyone, except for perhaps one special person and a herd of reindeer, who probably prefer a blanket of fresh snow," read a release from Environment Canada.

It's tongue-in-cheek "special weather statement" for Hamilton used the language it normally reserves for dire warnings of bad weather systems to mark the day's sunny and balmy character;

"Balmy unseasonal breezes will allow temperatures to rise well into the mid or even high teens in many areas later tonight into early Thursday morning. Temperature records for today and Christmas Eve are expected to tumble by the sleighful. And not only will it be mild, but abundant sunshine should grace many areas on Thursday as well...

A quiet, mild Christmas Day is in store for most areas with good travel conditions for one and all."

Balmy weather and unseasonable breezes are expected to continue throughout the day, and Environment Canada is predicting more mild temperatures for Christmas.
