Three tickets were issued Sunday night following the European Championship game, Hamilton police said.

Police said they went to James Street North in response to Italy winning the Euro Cup and "enforced Liquor Licence Act and Safe Streets Act issuing [three] violations."

Hamilton police preemptively blocked off part of the street to allow for the celebrations from Italy fans that started shortly after 6 p.m.

While people packed the closed-off area, cars filled the rest of the street. The celebrations caused some GO Transit delays.

Dozens of officers stood by and watched as car engines roared, horns blared, snare drums rattled, electro music pulsed, flags waved and hundreds of fans danced and screamed.

"Police were able to disperse the crowd by 10 p.m.," Const. Krista-Lee Ernst wrote in an email.

A spokesperson for the city said police took the lead with bylaw officers there to assist.

Bylaw officers didn't issue any Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) tickets.
