Hamilton and Haldimand will enter talks soon to extend HSR to the outlying county.

Hamilton city council voted Wednesday to meet with Haldimand about adding bus service to the area. Brenda Johnson, a Hamilton Ward 11 councillor, sees it as being particularly useful on Upper James Street toward Caledonia.

Haldimand reached out first. The county wrote to Hamilton on Oct. 13 asking staff on both sides to "investigate the feasibility of entering into an agreement for the provision of bus service between Haldimand County and Hamilton."

"Many Haldimand County residents travel to Hamilton for employment services, leisure and access to the GO bus and/or train services," says a Haldimand council motion dated Oct. 10.

Haldimand doesn't have a transit system. But the county, the motion says, aims to be "a healthy and vibrant community which prioritizes environmental best practices."

Hamilton council voted Wednesday to meet with Haldimand officials.
