Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says he has tested positive for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the PC MPP posted confirmation on Twitter that he and his wife had both contracted the virus.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to inform my constituents that I have tested positive for COVID-19," he wrote.

"I have been doing well, following guidelines from public health, working from home, and taking all necessary precautions including proper contact tracing."

Barett said his wife, Cari, was hospitalized with the virus at Joseph Brant in Burlington.

"[She] is doing well and will be coming home soon," he wrote.

Barrett has served as MPP for seven terms. He first won the seat in 1995.

Earlier in May, Barrett had posted a photo sharing that he had received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Bobbi Ann Brady, Barrett's executive assistant, told CBC News that his test was confirmed as a U.K. variant, and that it was contracted prior to receiving his shot.
