Guillermo Del Toro, Hollywood director, live blogs his Hamilton experience
Del Toro is filming in Hamilton, and residents are tweeting restaurant tips to him
It's lured artists, and chefs, and scores of Torontonians. Now Hamilton has drawn famed Hollywood director Guillermo Del Toro, and he's going public with his love.
The director is live tweeting his experiences in the city — mostly around food and books — as he films The Shape of Water here. And he's delighted residents by being effusive about it.
"I know there's a Seedy side of Hamilton- but you can feel a transformation from the last 5-6 years," he tweeted, calling the city "full of promise and surprises."
It's not his first time here. Del Toro, known for films such as Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, scouted locations for Pacific Rim. Two years ago, he filmed part of Crimson Peak at the Scottish Rite of Hamilton.
Del Toro's pro-Hamilton tweets drew excitement from residents, who crowded his mentions with gratitude and restaurant tips.
"If you're looking for a dinner guest, I'm available!" one person said.
"Such great things to say about #thehammer," said another. "LOVE IT! Much appreciated!"
The Shape of Water is a fantasy that stars Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones, among others.
