Good news for commuters: City re-opens roads closed by heavy rain and flooding
Two roads closed as a result of heavy rains earlier this spring are reopening, as the city makes a slow and steady return to normal following a record-setting rainy season.
The east leg of the Sherman Access is set to re-open tomorrow after its May 28 closure.
York Road in Dundas was another casualty of the flooding. It re-opened Monday after heavy rains prompted the city to close it at the beginning of May.
On the Sherman Access, falling rocks and debris posed a dangerous threat, causing the week-and-half closure.
Crews had to remove rocks and overhanging trees with loose roots as a result of the drenched ground.
The roadway is currently closed in both directions from the bottom of the Sherman Cut to the Kenilworth Access.
It's expected to open ahead of Thursday's morning rush.
York Road in Dundas was another casualty of the flooding. It re-opened Tuesday after heavy rains prompted the city to close it at the beginning of May.
The stretch on York Road, west of highway 6, was closed between Valley Road and Old Guelph Road.
Motorists have been rerouted over the last month.
High water levels in Lake Ontario along with ongoing heavy rain falls have hampered Hamilton's shoreline all spring.
Throughout the spring people have asked to stay clear of numerous trails and waterfront areas. The Waterfront trail remains closed.
