The Governor General is packing his bags this weekend for a trip to the Yukon. His Excellency David Johnston will be in Whitehorse to dedicate an historic building.

The Governor General will preside over the dedication of Taylor House, the new official office of the Yukon Commissioner. The Commissioner's office moved, this spring, from a rented downtown space.

On Monday, the ceremony to officially dedicate the building will include members of the Taylor family, a prominent Yukon family and former owners of the house. Yukon Commissioner Doug Phillips says he hopes his new office will become a centre of activity in that part of downtown Whitehorse.

While in Whitehorse, the Governor General will also oversee the first presentation of the new Polar Medal.
