GM Canada truck plant to shut down

Workers on the main assembly line at General Motors' last operating plant in Canada got their layoff notices Tuesday. There's a shortage of parts due to strikes at two GM plants in the United States.

GM Canada spokesman Greg Gibson said some of the 3,800 employees will stay on to clean up at the Oshawa plant.

The shortage of parts is the result of strikes at two parts plants in Flint, Michigan. The strikes, in their seventh week, have idled more than 185,000 workers, including 15,000 GM Canada workers.

Union leaders in Flint warned GM that they are prepared for a long strike. The union's main complaint is the outsourcing of jobs. United Auto Workers president Stephen Yokich says his union and GM are in "an all-out war."
