Former boys' school head charged
The former assistant headmaster at a boy's school in Selkirk faces a number of sex charges.
RCMP have have charged 50-year-old Kenneth Mackinnon Mealey with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of indecent assault.
The man was the assistant headmaster at St. John's Cathedral Boys' School in Selkirk. The school closed down in 1990.
Sgt. Steve Saunders says the investigation started more than a year ago.
"Our investigation started following a parallel investigation with the Winnipeg Police Service.
"During an interview that they had conducted with an individual, they were told and made aware of allegations of abuse at the school during the 82-83 school year."
Investigators tracked down 30 former students in various locations around the world. At the time of the assaults the students were in Grades 8 and 9.
The accused is currently a tourism officer for the town of North Bay.
He appeared in court today and was released. He will appear again in April.
