Edmonton mass killings: Timeline of events
Edmonton police Chief Ron Knecht outlined the timeline of events in the deaths of nine people in three separate locations in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan:
Monday 6:52 p.m. MT: Edmonton police respond to a weapons complaint at house in southwest Edmonton where a man is alleged to have entered the private home, discharged a handgun and fled the scene. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Monday 8:28 p.m.: Edmonton police respond to a call to check on the welfare of a man at a separate private residence in the city's north end. The family of the man said he seemed depressed, overly emotional and may be suicidal. Police arrived at the house, but the man was not located and nothing suspicious was noted.
Tuesday 12:23 a.m.: Police return to the north end residence and discover seven people dead — three women, two men and two children. Investigators described murders as "planned and deliberate."
Tuesday 2:20 a.m.: Police discover a black SUV at a Fort Saskatchewan restaurant that matches the description of a vehicle believed to be linked to the first homicide in southwest Edmonton. The restaurant is also linked to the suicidal male who was sought in the second homicide location.
Tuesday 8:45 a.m.: RCMP confirm that a man was found dead at the restaurant location in what appeared to be a suicide. The man is the same man police had been attempting to locate since Monday.
