Condo project worries residents

A 162-unit seniors' condominium project planned for a northwest golf course is running into some stiff opposition.

People who live near the Highland Park Golf Course are worried more condos will mean even more traffic. Julio Savoia has been fighting the project for years. He says there is only one way in and out of the area - along 40 Ave. N.W., which he says is already too busy. Savoia says his other concern is how the development will affect the existing parkland around the golf course.

"If we allow development on the golf course, we basically have lost what little green space we have left," he says.

Alderman Bob Hawkesworth, who represents the area, says he sympathizes with residents about their concerns. But he says he wants to see a master plan before any development on the golf course proceeds.
