Canada may deport Oberlander for Nazi past

A man who has been accused of Nazi war crimes could soon be forced to leave Canada. A federal court has ruled that Helmut Oberlander entered the country under false pretenses.

Oberlander, who lives in Kitchener, Ont., is accused of executing civilians during the Second World War, as a member of a Nazi killing squad.

The court says there is no evidence he participated in atrocities. But it's clear he was a member of the squad, something Oberlander failed to disclose when entering Canada in the early 1950s.

He could be stripped of his citizenship and deported.
